The closest village to Twin Ponds Preserve is Malone, New York. This quaint community near the Duane Region of the northern Adirondacks was first settled around 1802, and during the War of 1812 the village was sacked by British troops making incursions from Canada. Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the book Farmer Boy about Almanzo Wilder, who attended Franklin Academy in Malone.
