This quaint community near the Duane Region of the northern Adirondacks was first settled around 1802, and during the War of 1812 the village was sacked by British troops making incursions from Canada. Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the book Farmer Boy about Almanzo Wilder, who attended Franklin Academy in Malone.
Tourism is a major economic contributor for Malone, with Titus Mountain 6 miles south of the village drawing skiers, and the 36-hole Robert Trent Jones-designed Malone Golf Club drawing golfers from as far as Montreal, Quebec.
Saranac Lake and Lake Placid are other well-known villages in the area, each under an hour away. A quick drive will take you to indulge your shopping habit, grab a meal, or enjoy a broad array of recreational options. Lake Placid is known for hosting the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980, making it one of just three sites to have twice hosted the Winter Olympic Games.
