Adirondack Fall Foliage

A sea of green covering millions of acres of Adirondack forestland slowly begins to change around Labor Day. For the next few weeks the change is slow, as the great upland forest of maple, birch and beech begins to prepare for winter. As the chlorophyll that gives their leaves its deep green color starts to fade, other chemicals within the leaves react to sunlight and temperature change, causing the leaves to change color. Suddenly, around the last week of September, the hardwood forest seems to explode into an incredible array of reds, oranges, and yellows. It’s a sight that defies description, a display of nature unparalleled in its beauty.

The gorgeous fall season draws “leaf peepers” from around the globe to view what we are privileged to see everyday. Likewise, it is a benefit that also draws folks longing to live in this breathtaking environment.
