Local History

Lake George is a small town with a big history. First settled by the Mohawk tribe, this area was later named for King George I. These days, Lake George is a part of the Saratoga National Historical Park and is home to many historical sites that tell the story of the area’s Native American heritage, as well as its role in the French and Indian War.

Later, steamboats were introduced to the waters of Lake George and they quickly became popular among tourists and locals alike. To this day you can still enjoy scenic rides on some of the most iconic boats in the Upstate area.
